We’re honored to partner with Drew Baglino and his team at @heronpower for their Series B to build the next-generation electric grid. Our grid’s core hardware, particularly transformers, has barely changed in half a century. At the same time, energy demand is outpacing our ability to deliver supply, and the loads on our grid are harder to predict than ever before. Heron is solving this with solid-state transformers, which are modular, programmable, responsive, and capable of being coordinated as nodes in a managed network. Projects can come online faster, the grid can operate more reliably, and the system can scale more affordably. Drew started Heron after realizing the grid’s critical bottleneck while building towards Tesla’s Master Plan. Just a year later they are preparing to break ground on a 40-gigawatt factory in the United States. We are proud to support them on this journey. By @espricewright @baglino(a16z)
