[UK Inflation Rate Drops to 10-Month Low, Bank of England May Consider Rate Cut in March]
Jin10 News, February 18 – The UK’s inflation rate has dropped to its lowest level since March 2025, providing strong support for the Bank of England to consider a rate cut at next month’s meeting. The UK Office for National Statistics stated on Wednesday that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 3% year-on-year in January, down from the 3.4% increase in the previous month. The largest decline came from the automotive fuel sector, where the average price of gasoline fell by £3.1 per liter between December 2025 and January 2026. Inflation in the services sector dropped to 4.4%, slightly above the market expectation of 4.3%, while the Bank of England had previously forecasted a figure of 4.1%.
The inflation data released today is the last set of data before the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee meeting on March 19 to decide on interest rates. The dovish members of the committee may feel optimistic due to the inflation figures.
