PORT OF LA IMPORTS DROP AS TRUMP TARIFFS HIT TRADE
Container traffic at the Port of Los Angeles fell 12% in January, driven by weaker imports and exports compared with last year’s tariff-driven surge. Imports slid nearly 13% to 422,000 TEUs, exports fell 8%, and empty containers declined 12.5%.
Port Director Gene Seroka cited last year’s pre-tariff rush and cautious restocking as key factors, though advance purchase orders to Asia remain stable. The National Retail Federation expects imports to stay slow in H1 2026, highlighting continued tariff uncertainty.(*Walter Bloomberg)
