[ECB Governing Council Member Nagel: Euro Stablecoins Could Facilitate Low-Cost Cross-Border Payments] Jin10 Data, February 17 – ECB Governing Council Member Nagel stated that euro-denominated stablecoins could enable low-cost international transfers and complement the European Central Bank's efforts to promote the digital euro. The German central bank governor, while discussing transatlantic frictions, pointed out that Europe must become more independent in its payment systems and emphasized the ECB's work on creating a digital euro. Speaking to the German branch of the American Chamber of Commerce on Monday, he said: 'I also see the value of euro-denominated stablecoins. They can be used by individuals and businesses for low-cost cross-border payments.' Efforts by Trump to mainstream cryptocurrencies have sparked concerns in the market that dollar-backed stablecoins could gain a foothold in Europe, thereby threatening the region's banks and monetary sovereignty. Nagel's remarks indicate that the ECB's attitude toward euro-pegged stablecoins is becoming more open.
