Hugh Grant, President & CEO of Jamaica Public Service (JPS), said that three months after Hurricane Melissa, 97.5% of JPS customers now have electricity. That means about 673,000 people across Jamaica are back on the grid.
About 17,000 customers are still without power, mainly in Westmoreland and St. Elizabeth. We want those customers to know we are still working for you.
By the end of February, another 7,000 customers should be restored, bringing the number without power to under 10,000. Most remaining customers are expected to be reconnected between March and April 2026, once their homes are safe.
Some homes are too damaged to reconnect right now, but JPS is working with partners to help.
We will not stop until every customer who can safely receive power has their electricity back.(Andrew Holness)
