Internet infrastructures have made major adaptive upgrading changes to the "AI agent era":
1) Coinbase has just created a specialized wallet for AI agents;
2) Cloudfarm will soon launch Markdown format to allow web content to be delivered directly in the most favored and efficient format by AI agents, truly treating "AI agents" as important first-class citizens just like human visitors;
3) Google follows closely behind the WebMCP protocol (Web Model Context Protocol): it allows websites to proactively tell AI agents "what I can do here and how to do it," rather than letting agents guess, scratch, or click on their own.
Why do we need to perform adaptive upgrades on AI agents
1. AI agents are increasingly becoming the main "visitors" of web pages. Traditional web pages are designed for human browsers (HTML+CSS+JS), and the pages are becoming heavier and more fancy. But what AI agents, crawlers, and LLMs dislike the most when crawling and processing content is these "noises": navigation bars, scripts, styles, advertisements, etc. They only require clean structured text.
Markdown is the "mother tongue" of AI
Markdown has clear structure and semantics (titles, lists, links, code blocks, etc. are clear at a glance). Significant reduction in token consumption: Cloudflare's official example shows that the HTML version of this blog requires about 16180 tokens, while the Markdown version only requires 3150 tokens, saving about 80%.
Less tokens=lower inference costs, faster processing speed, and larger context windows can accommodate more content.
3. The WebMCP protocol launched by Google is in line with Cloudflare's previous logic of optimizing content for AI to read, but the direction goes further - evolving from "being able to read" to "being able to do it".
1) For AI agents, accuracy has increased from~40-70% to nearly 99%, speed has increased by 5-20 times, token costs have plummeted, and from "guess button" to "call API"|
2) Proactively control what AI can and cannot do for website owners (with finer granularity of permissions) to reduce the risk of abuse;
3) For users, agents who truly "help me book tickets," "help me return goods," and "help me fill out reimbursements" have become reliable and no longer fail frequently
4. Greater significance
Web pages are evolving from a "human centered" to a "human-machine dual centered" approach. In the past, we only considered human browsers, but now Cloudflare has directly opened a "green channel" for AI at the network layer, allowing AI to consume content from the entire network at a lower cost and higher quality.
This is an important step for the 'AI native web'. Markdown has become a de facto 'AI friendly protocol', similar to the significance of RSS for blogs and JSON for APIs in the past.
WebMCP is the first time that the Internet has natively opened a "front door" for AI agents in the browser layer - websites are no longer passively scraped and simulated, but actively declare that "I support these operations, come on, call me directly".
The two actions of Couldfare and Google are transforming the concept of "proxy native Internet" into reality:
1) Cloudflare → Enable Agents to Read the Entire Network Efficiently
2) Google WebMCP → Making Agents Reliable in Writing (Operating) Websites
