The trends of silver and gold are like inseparable brothers, often rising and falling together, with a correlation coefficient hovering between 0.8-0.95 throughout the year. There are two major reasons why they are highly similar in the long run:
The first major reason: both belong to the precious metal family of "safe haven+anti inflation". Gold and silver have played the role of "money" in human history for thousands of years.
In ancient times, gold and silver were both currencies (gold standard, silver standard)
Modern: Excessive issuance of paper currency, inflation, geopolitical warfare, economic crisis, people's first reaction is still to run towards precious metals
The second major reason: Gold travels with it, and silver amplifies with it
Due to the large volume of gold, more mature market, and abundant real gold and silver reserves of the central bank, it is usually the "big brother" who takes the initiative.
Gold rises first → Market forms consensus on 'precious metal bull market'
Silver is a latecomer, but has greater elasticity (higher beta value)
Gold up 10% → Silver may rise 20% -40%
Gold down 8% → Silver may fall 15% -30%
The reason why gold and silver have highly similar trends is mainly because:
1. Everyone is a "safe haven+anti inflation" asset, and their reaction direction is consistent when encountering the same type of macro event
2. Gold is the leader who goes first, silver is the younger brother who follows the trend and enlarges the version
3. Gold and silver are like rubber bands with memories, always pulling them towards a "normal distance"
So when looking at the big cycle, you often feel that these two products are like twins, with almost the same direction, except that the "little brother" of silver loves to jump, fall harder, and rise crazier.
When you are trading gold and silver, remember one sentence:
Gold leads the way, silver magnifier; Don't expect it to always obediently follow, but don't expect it to run too far forever either.
