This tariff dispute is one of the 12 cases that were debated in October or November and have not yet been decided. According to federal government data, controversial tariffs cause importers to lose over $16 billion per month. Economic analyst Chris Kennedy calculated that at this rate, the total amount of taxes collected under the core law of the case, the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act, could exceed $170 billion by February 20th.
