[Bank of England Chief Economist Pill: The Restrictive Nature of Current Interest Rates is Becoming Increasingly Unclear] Jin10 News, February 13 – Bank of England Chief Economist Pill warned on Friday that the extent to which monetary policy suppresses demand is becoming difficult to assess. 'Our monetary policy stance does indeed remain somewhat restrictive,' Pill stated, 'but the degree of this restrictiveness is now more ambiguous, perhaps even more so than the uncertainty surrounding the incomplete progress of disinflation.' Speaking at a Santander Bank event in London, Pill noted that the pace at which inflation is falling back to the 2% target is slower than expected and emphasized that wage agreement levels remain too high for the central bank. As one of the most hawkish voices at the central bank, Pill voted alongside the majority of committee members to keep interest rates unchanged at the February 5 meeting.
