Elon Musk is dreaming big again SpaceX is shifting its focus to building a self-sustaining city on the Moon within 10 years! (Mars is estimated to take over 20 years) Traveling to Mars is only possible when the planets align every 26 months (a 6-month journey); but launches to the Moon can happen every 10 days (a journey of just 2 days). This means the iteration speed for building a lunar city is way faster than for a Martian city. That said, the Mars city plan isn’t being abandoned—it’s expected to kick off in about 5 to 7 years. SpaceX’s mission remains the same: to extend consciousness and life to the stars. The current priority is ensuring the future of civilization, and the Moon clearly offers a faster path.
