[Bithumb Completes Full Resolution of Bitcoin Misdistribution Incident, Compensates Users Who Sold BTC at Low Prices with Price Difference and Consolation Payment]
According to Foresight News, Bithumb announced that the platform has completed all resolution work related to the previous Bitcoin misdistribution incident. On the day of the misdistribution, Bithumb recovered 99.7% of the misdistributed Bitcoin. The remaining 0.3% of Bitcoin (approximately 1,788 BTC), which had already been sold, was fully covered using the platform's own assets. As of February 7, 2026, 22:42:52, Bithumb's Bitcoin asset consistency has been restored to 100%.
The Financial Supervisory Service of South Korea conducted an on-site inspection on February 7 at 13:00. Bithumb has also decided to compensate every user who accessed the Bithumb app or website during the incident with 20,000 KRW each. Users who sold Bitcoin at low prices during the incident will be compensated 100% of the actual price difference, along with an additional 10% as a consolation payment. Starting from February 9, 2026, at 00:00, all cryptocurrency trading on the platform will be fee-free for seven days.
Previously, it was reported that on February 6, a Bithumb employee mistakenly distributed 2,000 BTC instead of the intended 2,000 KRW as a reward, resulting in hundreds of users unexpectedly receiving the airdrop. Due to this incident, the price of Bitcoin on the Bithumb platform temporarily dropped by 10% compared to other markets.
