Last night, I didn’t make big money on $ETH. I reviewed it afterward and realized I was watching the spot price fluctuations of $ETH at the time. The volume was around 40,000 per minute, so I used 1,000 $ETH to open and close positions, making about 100,000 $USDT. I was live-streaming on TS at the time, and it lasted about 15 minutes. Around the third minute, I realized it was a quant bug, but the volatility was too high, and I was afraid of sudden spikes, so I didn’t dare to increase my position size. When it first hit 2100, I didn’t have time to act, and the subsequent highs kept getting higher. Later, I saw people posting that some made a few million. Upon reviewing, I checked the perpetual contract trading volume at the time, which was 600k, meaning 600,000 $ETH per minute. This volume could have supported me opening and closing positions with 10,000 $ETH, potentially making 1 million $USDT. If the volume was only 40,000, opening with 10,000 $ETH wouldn’t have worked—it would’ve been too large a proportion and definitely problematic. For those who didn’t profit from this, there’s no need to regret: 1. You had to be watching the market at that exact moment. The window was very short—it was gone in the blink of an eye, like the time it takes to go to the bathroom. 2. You needed to be alert enough. I rarely watch $ETH, but I noticed something unusual with $BTC, which led me to check $ETH. 3. You needed to have available funds in your account. Recently, everyone’s been liquidating frequently, and there’s not much left in accounts. Even if you saw it, you might not have been able to maximize the opportunity. 4. Most importantly, you needed experience and courage. Experience to immediately recognize it was a quant failure, and courage to instantly go in with high leverage. Based on historical volatility, situations like this usually lead to big swings afterward, so the liquidation rate is extremely high. In other words, this was a risky move, not a risk-free one. Since others were gambling too, there’s no need to envy them.
