I met with the National Spatial Data Management Branch at the Ministry of Economic Growth and Infrastructure Development to review how we are using GIS, drone, and satellite technology to better map Jamaica. By geotagging homes and communities in greater detail, we are collecting accurate data that supports planning, assessments, and informed decision-making across government. This technology proved especially helpful during Hurricane Melissa, allowing us to quickly identify affected areas, assess damage, and guide emergency response and recovery efforts. GIS and mapping tools are powerful resources that help us serve our people more effectively and plan development in a more organized and resilient way.(Andrew Holness)
