The donation is aimed at supporting the development of Crosslink. Reportedly, Crosslink enhances Zcash's existing Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus mechanism by adding a parallel finality layer, thereby preventing chain reorganizations and rollback attacks. All block generation and economic activities still occur on the PoW chain, while the finality mechanism anchors blocks and provides stronger settlement assurances. By ensuring that confirmed transactions are irreversible, Crosslink reduces the risk of double-spending and improves the reliability of transaction settlement. Commenting on the donation, Vitalik said: 'Zcash is one of the most trusted cryptocurrency projects, consistently adhering to privacy as its core.
