[European Commission Announces New Round of Sanctions Against Russia] European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen issued a statement on February 6 local time, announcing that the European Commission has proposed the 20th round of sanctions against Russia. The new sanctions package covers the energy, financial services, and trade sectors. The statement noted that the European Commission has proposed a comprehensive maritime services ban on Russian crude oil and suggested coordinating the implementation of this comprehensive ban with allies following a decision by the Group of Seven (G7). The new round of sanctions will add 43 oil tankers to the 'shadow fleet' list, bringing the total to 640 vessels. At the same time, measures will be taken to make it more difficult for Russia to acquire tankers for the 'shadow fleet,' and a complete ban will be imposed on providing maintenance and other services to its liquefied natural gas carriers and icebreakers. Additionally, 20 regional Russian banks will be added to the sanctions list, and measures will be taken against companies and platforms involved in cryptocurrency transactions. The statement also mentioned that anti-circumvention tools will be activated for the first time, and it proposed strengthening legal protections for EU businesses. (CCTV News)
