[Aave Governance Proposal to Suspend Three L2 Deployments, Requiring New Chains to Ensure $2 Million Annual Revenue]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, the Aave governance delegate platform Aave Chan Initiative (ACI) submitted a governance proposal on January 29, suggesting the suspension of deployments on three Layer 2 networks: zkSync Era, Metis, and Soneium. The reason cited is the minimal user activity, TVL (Total Value Locked), and revenue contributed by these networks.
In the proposal, ACI stated, 'Over time, it has become evident that only a small number of instances contribute very little in terms of user activity, TVL, and revenue, yet they still require significant effort from service providers and governance participants.' Currently, zkSync's TVL is approximately $26 million, Soneium's is around $17 million, and Metis's is about $9 million.
ACI also proposed that any future new chain deployments must ensure at least $2 million in annual revenue for Aave, arguing that the protocol's liquidity relative to upfront and recurring costs is often underestimated. Snapshot voting began on the same day.
