[U.S. Senators Urge Review of Antitrust Risks in Tech Giants' AI Deals] Odaily Planet Daily News – U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren, Ron Wyden, and Richard Blumenthal have called on federal agencies to examine whether artificial intelligence deals by Nvidia, Meta, and Google pose potential antitrust violations. The three Democratic senators sent a letter on Wednesday to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Department of Justice (DOJ), urging the agencies to review several recent transactions. In these deals, tech companies have paid to "poach" specific employees from startups without acquiring the companies as a whole. The senators described such transactions as "reverse merger-style poaching." The letter stated that these deals "effectively function as de facto mergers, allowing the companies involved to consolidate talent, information, and resources while seemingly attempting to evade the regulatory scrutiny typically applied to merger transactions." The FTC and DOJ should "rigorously review these transactions and block or unwind them if they violate antitrust laws." (Jin10)
