In my impression, I have mentioned at least 10 times in previous articles that the universal layer 2 strategy is no longer feasible, and each layer 2 should be transformed into a dedicated layer 2, which is actually a type of layer 1. Unexpectedly, after guiding the lengthy strategic alignment of Stage2, @ VitalikButerin still turned many layer2s into "abandoned children": 1) Layer 2, especially the general-purpose layer 2, carries a significant development burden. At the beginning, it faced technical roadmap issues related to aligning Ethereum security, followed by regulatory issues related to the centralization of sequencers after coin issuance, and finally encountered the burden of "being falsified" due to inadequate ecological incubation. The fundamental reason is that at the beginning, all layer 2 relied on Ethereum layer 1 to survive, but when Ethereum found itself struggling and began to dominate the performance evolution of layer 1, layer 2 had no room for imagination to empower Ethereum, leaving only burdens and troubles; 2) Since Layer2 is not part of Ethereum's expansion, it does not mean that Layer2 has no room for survival. In the long run, Ethereum's positioning as a "secure settlement layer" for crowd extensions or external blockchains is still there. However, before Ethereum L1 achieves its ZK lightweight goal, many Layer2 must prove their existence under the burden of tokenomics, and then they can be reintroduced into the Ethereum system as a pure dedicated application chain. Think about it, if innovative newcomers like @ HyperliquidX appeared in the Ethereum layer 2 lineup, the script might not be written like this anymore. At present, the last trump card is left to @ megaeth, who is about to play TGE, to uncover.
