"What would I do today if I were an L2? Identify a value add other than scaling"
This has probably been the case for last year or so and will be even more true as Ethereum L1 continues to scale and blockspace becomes a commodity.
Which is why we never pitched Abstract as a general purpose Ethereum scaling solution.
Our original vision was to be "Ethereum's ultimate consumer arm" - building a unified experience to easily discover onchain games, memecoins, and social apps (I tweeted this at the end of 2024). And we pretty much accomplished this, serving as the home to the 4 most successful onchain games last year while creating the most consumer friendly portal on the market.
We ended up creating a very opinionated chain - a mix of traditional web2 product iteration with decentralized infra. At the center of our ecosystem is a curated discovery platform and a smart wallet that 95% of our users adopted. These are not features you would find on a general purpose EVM chain. We specifically decided to trade off certain elements of decentralization to make a product that could be more digestable to non-crypto natives.
The beauty of the L2 architecture is that we could do all of this while still relying on Ethereum L1 as the backbone of trust for everything. We'll continue to grow our userbase and partnerships to bring more people into not only the Abstract ecosystem, but also the greater Ethereum ecosystem. (Also stage 1 coming very soon, shoutout @zksync)
