Elon Musk's letter about SpaceX acquiring xAI: https://www.(spacex.com)/updates xai-joins-spacex Turns out his space data center plan is for real. The biggest bottleneck in AI development is energy, and only in space can we access enough energy. And SpaceX is the only one that can make this happen. If it were just about developing AI for use on Earth, that wouldn’t be very Musk-like. xAI is highly likely to be used to help with going to Mars. In *2001: A Space Odyssey*, the famous AI (HAL 9000) was the ultimate decision-maker on the spaceship heading to Jupiter and almost killed all the crew. Musk has commented on HAL 9000 multiple times, saying it was just programmed with the wrong objective function. Maybe Musk is planning to invent his own HAL 9000 and install it on Starship.
