Three French suspects mistakenly identified a programmer as a cryptocurrency tycoon, kidnapped his father and subjected him to 16 hours of torture before releasing him On February 3rd, according to Dlnews, French police arrested three men in their twenties on suspicion of kidnapping and torturing a 74 year old man in an attempt to extort $3.5 million worth of cryptocurrency from his son. It is reported that the suspect kidnapped the victim from his home in Walloon, Iser department in southeastern France in the early morning of January 25th and subjected him to 16 hours of torture, including cutting his fingers and cutting his face. The kidnapper sent a torture video to the victim's son through encrypted information, demanding payment of ransom. However, when the suspects discovered that the victim's son was not the "cryptocurrency millionaire" they mistakenly thought he was, but just a web developer without a large amount of cryptocurrency assets, they released the victim at 11 pm that same day.
