[Barclays: U.S. Treasury Issuance Expected to 'Hold Steady' for Two Consecutive Years]
Odaily Planet Daily News – Barclays Bank rate strategists predict in a research report that the U.S. Treasury will maintain the issuance size of interest-bearing bonds unchanged in the next quarter and throughout the 2026 fiscal year. Analyst Dhiraj Narula pointed out that this forecast aligns with previous policy guidance, meaning that since the last increase in issuance from February to April 2024, the issuance size has remained stable for a full two years. Narula emphasized in the report that the underlying fiscal situation in the U.S. remains severe. He noted: 'An annual deficit nearing $2 trillion continues to put pressure on the U.S. Treasury in terms of debt issuance.' Although the issuance size is currently expected to remain unchanged, Narula reminded that the U.S. Treasury had stated in November last year that it had 'begun preliminary considerations' regarding the possibility of increasing auction sizes in the future. Therefore, the upcoming quarterly refunding announcement may reveal the latest developments in these expansion plans. (Jin10)
