[Fed's Bowman Says She Still Supports Rate Cuts Despite Voting to Pause This Week]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, Federal Reserve Vice Chair for Supervision Bowman stated on Friday that she still believes interest rates should be lowered. However, she voted this week to maintain the current monetary policy, aiming to gather more data before the next reduction in borrowing costs. Bowman said she expects three rate cuts this year, each by 25 basis points, while the decision made after the Fed's two-day policy meeting on Wednesday only addressed the timing of the next move. Bowman noted that her analysis of the risks facing the economy remains unchanged, with inflation likely approaching 2%, but a weak labor market still necessitating accommodative monetary policy. However, she also acknowledged signs of stabilization in the labor market and, given the data gaps caused by last fall's U.S. government shutdown, believes the current policy rate range of 3.50%-3.75% should be reconsidered at the next meeting.
