[Hong Kong Customs: 219 Kilograms of Silver Smuggling Case Uncovered]
According to Hong Kong Customs, on January 27, Hong Kong Customs uncovered a case of smuggling using a private car at the Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point, seizing approximately 219 kilograms of suspected smuggled silver, valued at about HKD 6.1 million. After investigation, Customs arrested a 46-year-old male driver and a 40-year-old male passenger, charging them with the offense of "attempting to export unmanifested cargo." The case was brought before the Fanling Magistrates' Court on January 29. Under Hong Kong's Import and Export Ordinance, smuggling is a serious offense, with a maximum penalty upon conviction of a HKD 2 million fine and seven years' imprisonment.
