[Coinone Denies Rumors of Equity Transaction with Coinbase, Calling Related Reports Baseless]
Odaily Planet Daily News – South Korea's third-largest cryptocurrency exchange, Coinone, has denied being in negotiations with Coinbase regarding an equity sale, stating that such claims are 'baseless.' Earlier reports suggested that Coinone, the third-largest exchange in South Korea, was planning to sell shares held by its major shareholder and was in talks with overseas cryptocurrency exchanges about potential investments. Despite Coinone's public denial of the rumors, the share price of its second-largest shareholder, Com2uS Holdings, surged by approximately 17% at one point on Monday, reflecting the market's high sensitivity to merger and acquisition-related news. Additionally, South Korea's Financial Services Commission recently proposed setting a cap of 15% to 20% on the shareholding ratio of major shareholders in cryptocurrency exchanges. Currently, Cha Myung-hoon holds approximately 53.44% of Coinone's shares, and if the relevant regulatory measures are officially implemented, he may be required to reduce his holdings involuntarily.
