[UK High Court Holds Procedural Hearing in Zhimin Qian Case: Follow-Up Hearing Scheduled for February 16-17]
According to a report by Caixin, the UK High Court in Manchester held a hearing this week regarding the civil recovery case involving Zhimin Qian and Bitcoin (Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) v Zhimin Qian and another, Case No. KB-2024-003157). However, this was a typical procedural hearing, and no rulings were made on asset ownership, compensation plans, or substantive legal issues. The core issue of the hearing was determining who would represent the large group of Chinese victims. The presiding judge, Mr. Justice Turner, repeatedly expressed concern over the current situation. With an increasing number of law firms representing different groups of Chinese victims and filing claims under Section 281 of the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA), the UK High Court is facing the practical risk of 'proliferation of representation.' Additionally, Justice Turner explicitly mentioned another parallel judicial proceeding in the UK High Court concerning the bankruptcy liquidation process of Blue Sky Grit Company. It is reported that the follow-up hearing is scheduled for February 16-17, during which further arrangements or guidance may be made regarding the impact of the bankruptcy liquidation process on the civil recovery case.
