[Analysis: Ethereum Mainnet Activity Surpasses Multiple L2s, but Data May Contain 'Inflation'] According to CoinDesk, data shows that driven by lower transaction fees, Ethereum's average daily active addresses in January rebounded and briefly surpassed major Layer 2 networks. Statistics from Token Terminal indicate that Ethereum's daily active addresses approached 1 million this month and temporarily rose to around 1.3 million on January 16, before falling back to approximately 950,000. However, analysts warn that the active address data may be overestimated. Security researcher Andrey Sergeenkov pointed out that the January address growth is closely related to attacks such as address poisoning, where attackers send tiny stablecoin transfers to numerous wallets, causing fake addresses to appear in victims' transaction histories and potentially leading to misdirected funds. Overall, while Ethereum Mainnet activity does show signs of recovery, short-term data contains a significant amount of non-genuine demand, and the 'quality of recovery' on-chain remains to be further observed.
