[U.S. House Fails to Pass Resolution Aimed at Restricting Trump from Further Military Action in Venezuela]
BlockBeats News, January 23: On Thursday, U.S. House Republicans voted 215 to 215, resulting in a tie that blocked a resolution aimed at prohibiting President Trump from taking further military action in Venezuela without congressional authorization.
A few days earlier, a similar measure failed to pass in the Senate. In the closely divided House, the vote largely followed party lines. Except for Don Bacon of Nebraska and Thomas Massie of Kentucky, all Republicans voted against the resolution, while all Democrats voted in favor.
The deadlocked vote reflects concerns within Congress (including among a minority of Republicans) about Trump’s foreign policy. There is growing support for the constitutionally defined principle that the power to deploy U.S. forces in combat should rest with Congress, not the President. (Jin10)
