[Massachusetts Judge Plans to Order: Kalshi Must Cease Offering Sports Prediction Contracts in the State]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, Massachusetts Superior Court Judge Christopher Barry-Smith stated that he will issue a temporary injunction requiring the prediction market platform Kalshi to stop offering sports-related event contracts in the state without obtaining the license required under the Sports Betting Act. The judge agreed with the state government's position, believing that Kalshi's sports prediction contracts may violate state sports betting regulations. Under the ruling arrangement, the state government must first submit an injunction proposal that does not affect existing contracts, after which Kalshi will respond. The court is expected to formally order the suspension of related business by the end of this week, though there remains room to apply for an extension or a stay of execution. Previously, the state's Attorney General filed a lawsuit against Kalshi in September last year, alleging that its binary contracts were in violation of regulations.
