[Cybersecurity Engineer Accused of Stealing Funds from Gambling Website, 183 Bitcoins Seized by Police in Two Regions]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that cybersecurity engineer Li Dong has been accused of exploiting program vulnerabilities to steal personal information of over 1.84 million Chinese citizens from the overseas gambling website 'Kaiyun Sports.' He allegedly used high-commission agent accounts and technical methods to embezzle agent commission funds totaling over 35.5 million yuan. The Changge City Procuratorate in Henan has charged him with theft and infringement of citizens' personal information.
Previously, police in Zhangjiajie, Hunan, and Changge, Henan, had separately filed cases against Li Dong for allegedly operating a casino. Zhangjiajie police seized 103 bitcoins from him, which were liquidated for over 49.61 million yuan. Henan police seized 80 bitcoins, with a market value exceeding 40 million yuan.
The case has now been heard in the Changge City Court, where the defense lawyer has entered a plea of not guilty. The court will reconvene at a later date. (The Paper)
