According to BlockBeats, on January 20th, Shenzhen IT man Li Dong (pseudonym) was targeted by police in Hunan and Henan provinces. A large amount of Bitcoin was found in his virtual currency wallet. The public security organs in Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province and Changge City, Henan Province have both filed investigations against Li Dong, and the suspected charges are "opening a casino". Zhangjiajie police seized more than 100 bitcoins from Li Dong's account, which were converted into over 40 million Chinese yuan; The Henan police have seized 80 bitcoins worth over 40 million yuan. Later, Li Dong was not identified as "running a casino" and was prosecuted by the Changge City Procuratorate in Henan Province on suspicion of theft and infringement of citizens' personal information. In January 2026, this case will be publicly heard in Changge City Court. After the recess, the court stated that it will schedule another hearing at a later date.
Li Dong, born in the 1980s, is a network information security engineer who studied information security in university. He has successively engaged in network security technology in many well-known Internet enterprises, and later settled down in Shenzhen. In recent years, he started an Internet company. According to his family, Li Dong started trading stocks and coins around 2016 and acquired some Bitcoin. However, later police investigations found that his Bitcoin source had another "way". In September 2024, the Zhangjiajie Public Security Bureau in Hunan Province summoned Li Dong on suspicion of "opening a casino". It turned out that in May of that year, the Zhangjiajie police filed a case to investigate online gambling based on the "anonymous report", and Li Dong was listed as a suspect. The Zhangjiajie police seized 103 bitcoins from Li Dong's digital wallet and cashed in over 49.61 million yuan. Soon, Li Dong was released on bail pending trial. On the detention decision and release on bail pending trial documents, Li Dong's alleged charges have changed from "opening a casino" to "illegally obtaining computer information system data".
