Kate Forbes, President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), spoke at the opening of our Shelter Recovery Programme following Hurricane Melissa. She highlighted the strength, resilience, and unity of the Jamaican people, and commended communities, volunteers, and national institutions for supporting families through the recovery process. The IFRC, working through the Jamaican Red Cross, is supporting home repairs, shelter planning, and community-based recovery, while helping communities reduce future disaster risks. She also mentioned the vital role of volunteers, encouraging especially young people to get involved. The IFRC reaffirmed its commitment to continue partnering with Jamaica to strengthen communities, restore dignity, and support long-term recovery.(Andrew Holness)
