[Ethereum Founder Vitalik Supports Advancing Native Rollup Proposal] Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin stated that he is currently 'clearly more supportive' of native rollups (EIP-8079). He mentioned that his previous opposition was mainly due to the fact that native rollup precompiles required choosing between 'zk mode' and 'optimistic mode.' At the time, early ZK-EVMs were immature, and project teams tended to opt for solutions with a 2-7 day withdrawal period but secured by Ethereum, which harmed Ethereum's composability. Now, the timeline for Ethereum adopting ZK at L1 aligns closely with the timeline for adding native rollup precompiles, alleviating this concern. Vitalik also emphasized the importance of carefully designing the precompiles so that rollups with 'EVM + a few additional features' can use unified precompiles and come with provers tailored to the new features.
