I visited the forward operating base in St. Elizabeth to see how recovery efforts are being managed after Hurricane Melissa. This base was set up within 40 hours of the hurricane and now serves as the main support hub for the parish, with nearly 300 personnel from the JDF and partner forces working on the ground. I want Jamaicans to clearly understand how donations are handled. All items are carefully received, stored, and distributed using strict tracking systems. ODPEM manages all donations to the government, while the JDF and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security ensure materials are properly stored and delivered to communities through a hub-and-spoke system. Every board, sheet of zinc, and supply is fully accounted for and goes directly to families who have been assessed and approved for support. This process is transparent, well managed, and guided by the highest standards of accountability. We take this responsibility seriously, because maintaining trust today is essential to helping Jamaicans recover now and in the future.(Andrew Holness)
