[Commerzbank: Trump's Threat to Acquire Greenland May Harm the Dollar]
According to a report by Thu Lan Nguyen from Commerzbank, U.S. President Trump's threat to seize control of Greenland from Denmark poses a significant bearish risk to the dollar. She stated that this move could lead to confrontations between the U.S. and its European allies, which would be a 'catastrophic signal' for the dollar. 'If an open conflict erupts between the U.S. and Europe, both sides are likely to impose sanctions on each other, which would severely jeopardize the dollar's status as the world's reserve currency.' She added that for companies operating in Europe to avoid U.S. sanctions, the only way is to completely avoid using the dollar in transactions. Furthermore, direct trade between the U.S. and Europe could significantly decrease, thereby reducing European companies' demand for the dollar.
