[Hassett: If Leading the Federal Reserve, Capable of Convincing Colleagues]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, Kevin Hassett, a leading candidate for the next Federal Reserve Chair, has dismissed concerns that he would struggle to persuade other Fed officials to support his views if appointed. On Thursday, Hassett stated: 'I am tough enough to win debates. Anyone who has come to the White House and faced every possible question for five consecutive years—like I have—is tough enough to handle a hostile environment and help people understand why they are right or wrong.'
Hassett has consistently argued that Fed Chair Jerome Powell and his colleagues have been too slow in cutting interest rates, aligning with former President Trump's perspective. Federal Reserve observers have pointed out that interest rate decisions depend on the majority vote of the Federal Open Market Committee, and a chair nominated by Trump may not necessarily build consensus on significant rate cuts.
Hassett reiterated that Trump believes the Fed, under Powell's leadership, has shown political bias, cutting rates before the 2024 election but halting the easing cycle after Trump’s potential inauguration in 2025. 'He believes that sometimes their decisions appear to be partisan,' Hassett said.
