[Trump: 25% Tariff on Imported Chips Not Used for U.S. AI]
Jin10 News, January 15 – U.S. President Trump stated that after the conclusion of the tariff investigation, a 25% tariff will be imposed on all chips imported into the United States that are not used in the domestic artificial intelligence industry. These tariffs target chips that 'pass through' the U.S., are subsequently used in products like data center servers, and are ultimately exported to other countries.
'We will take 25% from the sales of these chips,' Trump said on Wednesday, adding that the measure is expected to generate billions of dollars in revenue. Last year, Trump mentioned that companies increasing their investments in the U.S. would also be exempt from chip tariffs, but he did not address this potential exemption on Wednesday.
