The Solidarity Programme is a Government of Jamaica initiative designed to support Jamaicans who need help the most but are often left out of traditional assistance programmes. It focuses on young people who are not in school, not working, or in training; older persons who are not on PATH or social pension; small business operators affected by recent disasters; and individuals who do not have basic documents like a birth certificate or TRN. Eligible persons will receive a $20,000 cash grant, but the support goes beyond money. Young people will be connected to training through HEART, and older persons will be guided into long-term social support programmes. The programme is being rolled out through Members of Parliament, civil society organisations, and later, an online self-application process. Solidarity pop-ups and fairs have already taken place across several parishes, with plans to reach all 14. The goal is to support 50,000 Jamaicans in this phase. Your Government sees you, and help is coming.(Andrew Holness)
