POWELL MAY SKIP CONGRESSIONAL TESTIMONY AMID DOJ PROBE Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell may not appear at his next scheduled congressional hearings after the Justice Department served the Fed with grand jury subpoenas, according to House Financial Services Committee Chair French Hill. The subpoenas relate to Powell’s June testimony about renovations to the Fed’s headquarters and raise the risk of a criminal indictment. Hill said the probe could prevent Powell from fulfilling his legally required semiannual testimony before Congress. The Federal Reserve declined to comment, while several Republican lawmakers have voiced concern over the DOJ investigation, with some threatening to block future Fed nominees until the issue is resolved.(*Walter Bloomberg)
