[U.S. Republican: Federal Reserve Chair Powell May Miss Semiannual Congressional Hearings]
Odaily Planet Daily News – According to a key Republican lawmaker, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell may miss the upcoming scheduled congressional hearings due to a subpoena issued to the Federal Reserve by the U.S. Department of Justice, which threatens to bring criminal charges against him. Under the amendments made in 1978 to the laws establishing the Federal Reserve, the Fed Chair is required to testify twice a year at congressional hearings to provide views on monetary policy and the economic situation. Traditionally, the Fed Chair attends hearings before the Senate Banking Committee and the House Financial Services Committee. French Hill, the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and a Republican congressman, stated, 'I expect Chair Powell will not attend the February hearings in the House and Senate because a grand jury has accused him of perjury.'
