The Senate Agriculture Committee has rescheduled its hearing on the encryption bill to January 27th According to CoinDesk, the US Senate Agriculture Committee plans to release its cryptocurrency market structure bill on January 21 and hold a key hearing on the text of the bill on January 27. The hearing originally scheduled for January 15th (postponed on Monday) will begin at 3pm in the afternoon. The motion revision hearing is a crucial step in advancing the legislative process, where lawmakers will be able to debate the amendment, vote on whether to include it in the base text, and then vote on whether to submit the entire bill to the full Senate for review. The Senate Banking Committee will hold its own revision hearing on its version of the bill this Thursday. Around midnight on Monday, the draft bill of the banking committee was released, but it is expected that lawmakers will propose amendments before the hearing. Since the initial discussion draft was released, the Agriculture Committee has not yet released the text of the draft bill. The unresolved issues include ethical code provisions (involving President Trump and his family's association with multiple cryptocurrency companies) and quorum rules (requiring regulatory agencies such as the SEC and CFTC to be jointly led by bipartisan commissioners). Currently, both institutions only have Republican commissioners. According to informed sources, the bill text of the Banking Commission also does not include provisions regarding ethical standards or quorum, so the current version may not receive bipartisan support.
