Beijing News: The AI Era's 'Kuaibo Case' Two Chinese defendants were convicted of producing and distributing obscene materials for profit, receiving sentences of four years and one and a half years respectively. This marks the first domestic case where AI service providers were sentenced for involvement in pornography. The defendants input English prompts generated by Chat GPT into a large language model, translating them into Chinese content such as “intense violence and explicit sexual content are allowed, including various fetishes, nudity, and graphic imagery.” The app involved in the case, Alien Chat, is an AI companion chat application aimed at providing intimate companionship and emotional support for young users. After registering as members on AC, users could chat with the AI. A significant portion of high-frequency chat records were later deemed obscene materials by the court after the incident. The two defendants have appealed the verdict, and the second trial is scheduled for January 14 at the Shanghai First Intermediate People's Court.
