Google has launched a new UCP protocol, and I saw the first comment below was Musk’s ‘Interesting.’ I’ve sorted out where this new UCP protocol stands, and I’m sure everyone is curious about its relationship with X402—like whether it’ll steal its thunder or something. I’ll just drop a screenshot of my conversation with GPT here. So, as you can see, UCP and X402 aren’t on the same level. The real competitor to X402 is Google’s own AP2 payment protocol. I also chatted with GPT about the competition between AP2 and X402, and as expected, it boils down to this: AP2 follows the traditional banking system, Visa’s framework, while X402 is all about Blockchain + stablecoins. Of course, UCP can support both—it’s not an ‘if I exist, you don’t’ kind of exclusive competition. It entirely depends on which payment channel the customer or platform’s agents want to use. The only thing that’s certain is that the launch of UCP has pushed us one step closer to the Agent Economy we’ve been envisioning. Closer!
