Here are some mind-blowing predictions. The four guys also made some predictions they believe are the most contrarian, and they’re pretty interesting. Among them, Chamath shared two of the most out-of-the-box ideas:
- SpaceX might not go for an IPO but instead go public through a reverse acquisition by Musk (this idea has already sparked a ton of wild interpretations, but remember, this was part of the contrarian, out-of-the-box predictions on the show).
- The other one is about cryptocurrency: Chamath thinks central banks around the world will realize some of the limitations of gold and Bitcoin, so they might come up with a completely new cryptographic attempt (a new currency?). This model would allow them to control it on their balance sheets, make it interchangeable, tradable, and fully secure and private. This new currency would also need to hedge against risks posed by quantum chips that could emerge in the next 5 to 10 years.
On the cryptocurrency topic, Chamath mainly emphasized the importance of privacy: for the sake of national sovereignty, these central banks need to have an asset that cannot be easily accessed by others (whether friends or foes).
