[Instagram Data Breach, Approximately 17.5 Million User Information Exposed] BlockBeats reports that on January 11, according to Engadget citing security company Malwarebytes, Instagram experienced a data breach incident, exposing sensitive information of approximately 17.5 million users, including usernames, email addresses, phone numbers, and physical addresses. The related data has already been sold on the dark web and may be used for phishing attacks and account takeovers. Malwarebytes stated that the incident might be related to an API exposure issue in Instagram's 2024 update. Affected users have recently been receiving frequent password reset emails. As of now, Meta has not issued an official response. Security agencies recommend users enable two-factor authentication (2FA) and change their passwords.
