Ensuring safe and dignified shelter for Jamaicans affected by the recent hurricane remains a priority for my Government.
This morning, we met to review the commitments made in early December regarding the acquisition of temporary and semi-permanent containerized modular housing solutions, which are intended for rapid deployment to support those who suffered the total loss of their homes.
This response involves multiple arms of the Government. The National Housing Trust has already undertaken the acquisition and provision of a number of these units, while the Ministry of Housing has also been advancing parallel efforts.
I convened the full range of the Government’s housing resources to assess progress to date, provide further direction, and make final decisions on the number of units to be acquired and the framework for their distribution. Our focus remains on timely, coordinated action that delivers practical shelter solutions to those most in need.(Andrew Holness)
