Ever since the 3commas trade API leak incident, major exchanges have started binding trade permission APIs to whitelist IPs. After that, cases of wash trading to make money have become very rare.
As for the 714 wash trading incident with Xilanhua, it’s more likely an inside job with external collusion. After all, the chances of an entire server being hacked are pretty low.
Our company chose to partner with OKX for one core reason: OKX’s signal bot allows automated trading for members without needing to enable trade API permissions. Instead, it works by sending webhook events.
To me, this is a super important feature because high-net-worth users are definitely concerned about the security risks of API hosting. At the time, among the major exchanges in the market, only OKX was seriously developing this signal bot product line—others were doing it in a very basic way.
But later, OKX laid off the entire signal bot team, which caused delays in launching our company’s product. That’s a whole other story though (sigh).
