I saw the launch of Zama mainnet. As mentioned multiple times before, with the entry of institutions, the demand for encrypted privacy is on the rise. The previous blockchain was a transparent square, where everyone's wallets and transaction records were publicly available. In the early days of the cryptocurrency industry, when asset levels were still small, people were more focused on opportunities for returns. But if we want to enter into larger scale adoption, institutions need to enter, traditional finance needs to be on chain, and building on chains such as Ethereum on Wall Street, privacy cannot be avoided because neither institutions nor their clients want transactions and assets to be transparent.
So, in the next one or two years, privacy encryption technologies, including ZK and FHE (fully homomorphic encryption), will be an area that cannot be ignored in the field of encryption. ZK currently has Succinct/zkysnc/Brevis, while FHE has also launched a mainnet for Zama.
Zama is not building a completely new privacy blockchain from scratch, but rather adding a layer of membrane to the current chain and overlaying it onto an existing chain (such as Ethereum). Simply put, it means that after data encryption, it can be directly calculated and operated without decryption.
Because it is not an independent chain, but provides an encryption layer for all chains, which means it has the opportunity to become the foundational layer for encrypted privacy. From 2013 to 2023, the encryption rate of network traffic increased from 10% to 95%, thanks to HTTPS. After looking at Zama's vision, it also attempts to make blockchain achieve default encryption, allowing all on chain assets and transactions to have privacy, not only DeFi, but also AI computing, cloud services, asset on chain data, and more.
In summary, Zama's vision is to become the underlying infrastructure for encrypted privacy, allowing public chains to default to privacy and meet the most basic privacy needs of institutions and users.
