How does the current silver explosion in price compare to the epic bull market in 1979 (Hunt Brothers)? Back in 1979 to 1980, silver went from about $7 per oz to $50 per oz. It was roughly a 700% increase, but it didn't last because there was no real shortage of the metal. Globally the silver mines were meeting demand. This time in 2025, silver is starting from its base of $25 to $30. If the move is similar, we could reach $150 to $200 per oz quite easily during 2026. What is different about this rally? There is a real supply issue now. Demand has exceeding global mine production for over 5 years in a row now. Industrial demand is consuming above ground reserves in the vaults. Whereas in 1980, there was no actual shortage of silver metal, now there is a real possibility that demand cannot be met at current prices. Some people say, "they will just open more silver mines." That is not how silver is produced. Silver is mined from copper, lead and zinc. Silver is a 1% to 2% biproduct of other metals being mined. Nobody is opening new silver mines in response to the current silver prices. 75% of silver is produced by mining companies that don't care. Silver prices are a tiny piece of their revenue.(Wall Street Mav)
