Deep dive into Musk's 2027 'Artemis III' mission, aka the audacity plan
Musk has taken on a NASA mission. In 2027, he plans to launch a Block 3 rocket to send two astronauts to the lunar South Pole.
Then, the rocket will be laid down and unfolded. By this point, one-third of the rocket's fuel tank will already be empty. The two astronauts will spend 168 days inside the rocket installing flooring, lighting, and even a TV. Using lunar soil, they'll 3D print bricks to bury the rocket. They'll drill into the South Pole ice to extract oxygen and fuel, establishing humanity's first permanent lunar base: Alpha Base.
To prepare for this, in 2026 Musk will first launch two rockets carrying modified Tesla Cybertrucks, Optimus robots, and Tesla solar panels. These will address the astronauts' labor, energy, and transportation needs after landing.
The Cybertruck, Tesla Roof, Powerwall, and Optimus robots mentioned here are almost identical to the civilian versions of Tesla products on Earth.
Turns out Musk never exaggerates—everything he’s said before, he’s made happen.
